Welcome back to all of those who have been away over the summer. Your SCEA officers have been busy at work during the break. Vice-President Janet Mazzarella and SCEA PAC Co-chair Andrew Rempt, along with Veronica Burton, Linda Jones, Carla Kirkwood, Patti Flores-Charter, and others, have been hard at work on preparing for the upcoming elections in November. We have been attending meetings of the Accreditation Oversight Committee, Shared Consultation Council, Budget Task-Force, and other meetings. Our Grievance Chair Robert Unger and Grievance Officer Frank Post, have been successfully representing bargaining unit members with various issues over the summer. Part-time Rep Carol Stuardo has worked diligently to correct and ensure that part-time faculty are receiving the correct service credit toward their STRS retirement accounts. Wondering whatever happened to the request for Hurdle Credit? Good news! A Hurdle Credit Task Force has met on a number of occasions and has agreed in principle to new contract language that will clarify requirements for obtaining Hurdle Credit for activities other than upper-division college classes.

The fall semester will soon be upon us. We look forward to a semester that will clearly define the direction of Southwestern College for many years to come. SCEA will be present at Opening Day. We will have free SCEA T-shirts for members, membership forms, information, as well as other items that will help you as you begin preparing for your classes.
